Everybody needs a buddy. This is true along life's journey when things are going well, and especially when there are challenges along the way.

Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation announces its first Buddy Walk Saturday, September 6 at 9 a.m. at the hospital's Healthy Way Fitness Trail.

This new event was inspired by Mary Dunaway of Shelbina. She underwent cancer treatments at the James E. Cary Cancer Center in 2013. Throughout her treatment, Mary got support from the Cancer Center staff, family, friends and Buddy, her Golden Retriever.

The Buddy Walk is an opportunity for cancer survivors, family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged, to join together in a walk of hope.

Participants are encouraged to bring their buddy, which can be a spouse, a friend, a family member or their dog.

This is a fundraiser for the James E. Cary Cancer Center. Registration for the walk is $20 per person and $5 per dog. Two-legged walkers get a shirt, four-legged walkers get a bandana.
