In one aspect, I'm not surprised at all that a certain Missouri lake was just declared the best in the state. It's kind of an obvious choice, but it's also important to note that there are many that don't agree for very good reasons.

Let's begin with the good (albeit a bit obvious) news. Cheapism which is a website specializing in best destinations for tourists just named the "best" lake in Missouri and it is...(*drum roll*)...

Lake of the Ozarks (*duh*)

Yes, it is by far the most popular 54,000 acres of water you'll find in Missouri and the fact that the fascinating Ha Ha Tonka State Park is there helps. But, there are reasons to not choose it also.

Let's start with the fact that Lake of the Ozarks is almost the perennial champion of the most dangerous lakes competition not just in Missouri, but for the entire country. I've lost count of the number of boating accidents and drownings that happen in that region every single year.

If not Lake of the Ozarks, what is Missouri's best lake?

There is another traveler's website (Travellersworldwide.com) that says Table Rock Lake is Missouri's best lake and one of the 14 best in America.

I love both Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake. The accidents that happen are the responsibility of those that go there. Don't blame water for human errors and accidents. However, know that the Missouri best lake declaration isn't unanimous. Missouri is blessed to have many great waterways.
