The question on the minds of folks driving on North 3rd Street in downtown Hannibal is: what's going on at the site of the old Becky Thatcher Diner?

After the former 3rd Street Diner closed recently, the property was purchased by Bobby Boland of Tom Boland Ford, with the goal of reopening the diner. The building is currently undergoing renovation and remodeling, under the direction of Tim Ashby, himself the owner of the Brick Oven eatery on Center Street.

The operator of the new Becky Thatcher is Mindy Dunbar. She's been in restaurant industry for some 15 years, a portion of that spent at the former TJ's Supper Club. Dunbar's vision for the new diner is a retro theme, creating the atmosphere of a classic 50s diner.

The goal is to have the Becky Thatcher Diner open by May 1.
