Adams County Mother Sentenced Following Shooting Death of Her Daughter

A year in jail is the sentence for Karen Torres following her guilty plea to illegal possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

That charge follows the shooting death of her daughter—3 year old Melina Torres at a family gathering near Beverly in May of 2016. Three others were arrested following the incident including Melina’s uncle—Daniel Roberts… her grandmother Julie Roberts and Shannon Combes. Daniel Combes is serving a three and a half year prison sentence. Roberts also received a prison sentence. Roberts is scheduled for a status hearing today.
