A suburban St. Louis woman died and a police officer was shot in a confrontation that authorities say was not related to unrest in Ferguson.

University City Police Sgt. Frederick Lemons says officers went to a home Monday night to investigate a burglary report. They found a woman shot in the leg. She died later at a hospital.

Lemons says as officers approached the home, a man started shooting, hitting one officer in the arm. The officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect escaped by running from the house.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said early Tuesday the shooting was not related to unrest in Ferguson over grand jury's decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson for the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old.
