Woman Accused of Financial Exploitation of Quincy Nursing Home Resident

A Keokuk woman is accused of financial exploitation of an elderly family member at a Quincy nursing home.

Quincy Police were notified January 26th by Sycamore Healthcare and the Community Ombudsman of a 77 year old resident who was possibly being financially exploited by a family member acting as power of attorney for the victim. Police say the investigation determined several thousand dollars had allegedly been misused. Police say 55 year old Laura Hawkins of Keokuk was arrested in Keokuk on the charges and released on a notice to appear. She is to be in Adams County Circuit Court on March 11th.
