As a parent, the process of teaching your children is a everyday occurrence. Telling them what is right and what is wrong is never easy. Asking them to share is very difficult as well as most kids are very protective. How you do it makes all the difference in the world on how they accept it. My opening comments are all leading to the opportunity parents have right now to make this a very special Christmas for their children.

Making children understand that there are less fortunate kids out there who’s Christmas depends on the generosity of you and your children is a wonderful lesson to be learned at Christmas time. This is the essence of Y101, WLIQ and KICK-FM’s Load the Lobby campaign.

In the past 4 years we have held this event, I have seen children come in with their parents and drop off their toys for others to have and throw an absolute fit that they are giving up those toys. Then there are the kids who stop by to drop off their toys and have no problem with it. Those are the children whose parents used the opportunity to teach their children the right thing to do. There isn’t a kid on the planet who wouldn’t want to hang onto what is his or hers. It is when they understand why they need to give the toy to a youngster less fortunate than them, you, as a parent, have done your job and done it well.

As a parent, your child or children all have toys that are no longer being used. Please gather them and bring them beginning Monday to our station lobby at 24th and Broadway (behind the Coach House) and help us fill up the room.  In doing so, you will feel good in helping a less fortunate child for Christmas, the less fortunate child will have a great Christmas, and even more importantly you have taught your child a wonderful lesson.

The lobby will be open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 5 pm through December 13th.  It will be closed Thanksgiving and Friday (the 29th) for the holiday.  Enjoy your time with family and friends this holiday season and count your blessings for all the things you have because there are those in our community who don’t have and can use some help.
