Mosquito-borne Disease that Kills 1 in 3 Reported in Wisconsin
This is not meant to create alarm, just awareness. A deadly mosquito-borne disease that kills 1 in 3 has been reported in Wisconsin.
I saw a report by The Daily Mail that two east coast states have issued stay-at-home orders due to Eastern equine encephalitis. Both Vermont and Massachusetts have seen increased cases that have caused concern that this may become a more widespread problem.
According to the current CDC map, Wisconsin is now a state where this awful mosquito virus has struck.
I checked the Wisconsin Department of Health Services site and it has more specific information. The case was in Brown County.
The CDC says this is a rare, but serious disease. The agency confirms "30% of people who develop severe eastern equine encephalitis die, and many survivors have ongoing neurologic problems". Symptoms include "fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, behavioral changes, and drowsiness".
There's no indication from either the national or state sites the date of the Wisconsin disease, but as this is a developing story, it will be updated once new information is provided.
