Who is the Best-Selling Artist From Your Home State?
If you've ever wondered who the best-selling musical artist is from you're home state, there's a map for that. Radio.com complied sales figures based on artists and the states they call home, and came up with some interesting stuff.
In Missouri, pop/rock/country star Sheryl Crow gets the nod. R & B singer R. Kelly is tops in Illinois. In Iowa, favorite son and crooner Andy Williams has been selling albums for years and comes in first there.
Not surprisingly, several country stars are tops among southern states. A few pop up elsewhere across the map as well though. A few of note include...
- Texas-Kenny Rogers
- Louisiana- Tim McGraw
- Oklahoma- Garth Brooks
- New Mexico- John Denver (No, he's not from Colorado originally)
- Alabama- Alabama (I bet you didn't see that one coming)
- Georgia- Alan Jackson
- Tennessee- Kenny Chesney
- North Carolina- Randy Travis
- Arkansas- Johnny Cash
- Kansas- Martina McBride (my home state originally)
- Ohio- Rascal Flatts
- Arizona- Linda Ronstadt
Jewel, who has done some country, tops the list of Utah natives, while the king of rock 'n roll, Elvis Presley surprises no one by being the best-selling Mississippi native. Elvis did some country music too, ya know.
Not every state in America has a representative, but you can see the whole list online nonetheless.
