There were a number of traffic crashes over the weekend, including two that resulted in fatalities, one in Hancock County Sunday and one in Macon County Saturday.

A Carthage man is dead as the result of a single vehicle crash on Highway 94 in Hancock County at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Illinois State Police report 19 year old Jacob Huls of Carthage was northbound and swerved to avoid striking a vehicle pulling out of a driveway.

Huls’ vehicle ran off the road, hit a ditch and rolled over into a field.

Huls and his passenger, 20 year old Cory Squier of LaHarpe, were thrown from the vehicle.

Huls was pronounced dead at the scene. Squier was taken to Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa with non-life threatening injuries.
Neither Huls nor Squier were wearing their seat belts.

 

A two vehicle crash on Highway 63 south of Macon County Highway M at 6:21 a.m. Saturday results in the death of a Macon man.

The Highway Patrol reports 25 year old Donald Parrish of Macon was northbound when his car rear ended a semi, driven by 49 year old Rick Gardner of Atlanta, Missouri.

Parrish was pronounced dead at the scene.
