Residents of a small southern Illinois community that's still recovering from last month's deadly tornadoes say they're bracing for another round of severe weather as a wintry storm pushes toward the region.

Three people died near Brookport when a tornado touched down Nov. 17. It was one of about two dozen twisters to roll across Illinois.

Brookport's interim mayor Tom Souders says many in the city of about 1,000 residents still have heavily-damaged or destroyed homes.

He tells WSIL-TV he's "doing a lot of praying the storm don't come."

Meanwhile, workers are covering water lines and some cleanup efforts were halted so road crews could prepare to treat roads.

Forecasters say some areas could get up to half an inch of ice, followed by several inches of snow.
