Hannibal Police and Fire officials are investigating a couple of fires Friday at the former St. Elizabeth’s Hospital building.
Firefighters were called to 109 Virginia about 11 a.m. Friday. They found a fire at the front entrance of the building, and a second fire in a nearby room.

Both fires were extinguished quickly and firefighters swept the building to make sure there were no other fires.

The building has been vacant since 2009, and there are no utilities connected.

The city condemned the building earlier this year. The building current owner is awaiting word on tax credits so he can convert the building into senior housing.
