A St. Louis County man is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly shaking his 3-month-old daughter to death.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 30-year-old Jonathan Lawton of Fenton was originally charged on Monday with felony child abuse. The charge was upgraded to second-degree murder after his daughter, Jocelyn, died on Wednesday.

Court documents say Lawton shook the child on Sunday to stop her from crying. Doctors at Cardinal Glennon Medical Center determined she suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Lawton posted $30,000 bail on the child abuse charge and was released from the St. Louis County Jail. Authorities may revoke bail now that the charge has been upgraded.
