1 of Missouri’s Largest Gas Providers Closing 1,000 Stations
Many will not be happy about two things. First, one of Missouri's largest gas providers is reportedly planning to close 1,000 stations. Second, the reason why will likely cause many to be angry.
The news about one of Missouri's largest gas providers and their plan to close 1,000 stations comes from Inside EV's. They say that Shell is the brand that has designs on shuttering 1,000 stations to "increasingly focus on renewable energy and electric vehicle charging". That's right. EV charging stations in place of gasoline-powered vehicles.
There's already one Shell station in Missouri that is now closed, but it has nothing to do with future EV charging plans.
Fox 2 in St. Louis reports that the Shell station on N Tucker Boulevard is closed after 21 shootings over a 4-year period which earned it the nickname "Murder Shell".
What about the rest of the Missouri Shell stations? No specific location closings in the state other than the N Tucker Boulevard store in St. Louis have been confirmed, but the Springfield Business Journal is reporting that other closings will happen later this year and into 2025 also.
While the federal government has been trying to move consumers toward electric vehicles, I have to wonder if their cost will be made more affordable and if they'll be able to overcome issues like battery problems and charging during the winter months. I'm not optimistic that the technology and the economy are right for this change yet, but there are many people that are smarter than me that claim they're figuring these things out.
