Hannibal firefighters battle a second blaze on Union Street in as many days.

Assistant Fire Chief Ken Steffen says crews responded to 1218 Union shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.  Steffen says crews arrived to find smoke coming from the basement that soon erupted into the first floor of the structure.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 15 to 20 minutes.  The State Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.

Steffen says 3 occupants escaped uninjured.  The house sustained major damage.

Friday afternoon, crews responded to the 1400 Block of Union after fire broke out while the residents reportedly were using an open flame to thaw frozen pipes. The occupants of that home also escaped injury.
