The ribbon was cut on Marion County’s newest bridge Monday morning.

The ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the bridge that takes Marion County Road 423 across Bear Creek near Withers Mill.

The new bridge replaces a narrow structure that had been built in 1940 with a 14 ton weight limit.

According to Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode, the bridge was paid for by a combination of federal and local funds

The bridge was built by Chester Bross Construction of Hannibal at a cost of $422,000.
