Help Solve Any of These 5 Illinois Cold Cases and Get a Reward
There are sadly dozens of cold cases in Illinois where the victim's families still have no closure. If you have information that can help solve any of them, you could get a reward for being a hero.
The Illinois State Highway Patrol lists many unsolved cases including some that have been without a lead for decades. Out of all those cases, there are only 5 that still offer a reward for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for these crimes.
CARMEN CHARNECO - $5,000.00 Reward
Carmen Charneco was killed by someone and was found July 24, 1993 on Interstate 90 in Elgin, Illinois. This is one case where the Illinois State Police have a suspect. They are seeking Edwin Acevedo Rodriguez who reportedly fled the area where Carmen was found and is wanted for questioning regarding her murder. He is believed to be a member of the gang "Maniac Latin Disciples" and is to be considered armed and dangerous. They say warrants for his arrest include Parole Violation, Public Peace/Damage to Property/Mob Action, and Unlawful Flight to Avoid Confinement. DALTON MESARCHIK - $50,000.00 Reward
Dalton was 7 years old at the time of his disappearance on March 26, 2003 from his yard in Streator, Illinois. His body was found the following day in the Vermillion River. The Illinois State Police report says dozens of individuals were interviewed, but no one has been charged with his murder as of this writing. SHERRY LEWIS - $10,000.00 Reward
It was August 5, 1994 when 30 year-old Sherry L. Lewis, a Decatur realtor, was found in a home she was scheduled to show. There are no reports of any suspects or individuals that have been interviewed in this case. JEREMY "CHAPPY" CHAPPELEAR - $3,000.00 Reward
Jeremy "Chappy" Chappelear was found Saturday, April 25, 1998, at approximately 5:25 a.m by fishermen after he had apparently been struck and killed by a vehicle. He was reportedly last seen walking home from a party during the early morning hours that day. CAROL ROFSTAD - $1,000.00 Reward
Carol Rofstad was found beaten and unconscious around noon on December 23, 1975, outside her sorority house at 602 S. Fell Street in Normal, Illinois. She was 21 years old at the time and attending Illinois State University. It's believed that she was beaten by a broken off portion of a railroad tie that was found nearby. The Illinois State Police add this detail:
"Two men, one of whom carried a club, were seen between 10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. on December 22, 1975. Both were white males and between the ages of 18 and 25."
