Gov. Pat Quinn says Walgreens made the right decision to stay headquartered in Illinois.

The Deerfield company announced Wednesday that it would stay in the U.S. instead of pursuing an overseas reorganization. Quinn put out a statement commending the nation's largest drugstore chain. He says the decision respects the company's "thousands of workers, managers and customers" who call Illinois home.

Walgreen Co. had drawn criticism for considering the move, in part because it receives a portion of its revenue through government-funded programs that help cover the sick and elderly. On Wednesday the company said it was "mindful of the ongoing public reaction" to a potential overseas reorganization.
