Officials at Quincy University confirm that a QU student has been diagnosed with a case of the mumps.

In a press release, officials say they are monitoring the campus and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all QU students.

They say the university is working closely with the Adams County Health Department and other medical professionals to develop a plan to address any additional cases of the mumps.

Mumps is caused by a virus and is easily spread through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and swollen salivary glands under the ears.
Quincy University last had a confirmed case of mumps on campus in 2015.
