Quincy Police are offering tips on recognizing heroin overdoses.

Officer Kelly Vandermaiden says the information is being passed along due to a recent increase in heroin related calls and overdose incidents in the area. Strength of the drug varies and the impact is unpredictable when used with alcohol or other drugs. Signs of overdose include:

--Slow or shallow breathing
--Pinpoint pupils
--Bluish skin.. fingernails or lips
--Weak pulse
--Low blood pressure
--Rapid decrease in heart rate
--Cold, clammy skin
--Vomiting
--Muscle tightening
--Seizures
--Coma

If a heroin overdose is suspected, call 9-1-1 and get medical help immediately.
