Quincy Man Arrested for Hate Crime, Aggravated Battery
A Quincy man was arrested on battery and hate crime charges over the weekend.
Quincy Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1000 block of Cherry Street just before 6 p.m. Saturday.
An investigation revealed that 26 year old Evan Carter allegedly approached three juveniles, attempting to cause a disturbance and using racial slurs.
When the juveniles fled the scene, Carter allegedly chased them on a bicycle. Carter caught up with the juveniles and sprayed them with what was believed to be pepper spray.
Carter then fled into a residence in the 1100 block of North 11th, where he shot at the juveniles with a pneumatic powered weapon, striking one of the juveniles.
Carter was taken into custody after a search of his residence Sunday. He was charged with aggravated battery and hate crime. Carter is lodged in the Adams County Jail.
