A 21-year-old man is in custody in the stabbing death of a 15-year-old boy at a southwest Missouri apartment complex.

KYTV reports authorities identified the victim Friday as Joey Phillips, who was about to start his sophomore year at Nixa High School.

Nixa police were called to the apartment complex Thursday afternoon and found Phillips with stab wounds in his throat. The teen died a short time later at a hospital.

The 21-year-old suspect is jailed while Christian County prosecutors weigh charges against him. The suspect was treated at a hospital for what police called minor injuries.

Authorities say the suspect and the victim were acquainted.
