Plans Underway for Second Annual Big River Steampunk Festival in Hannibal
The Big River Steampunk Festival made its debut in Hannibal on Labor Day Weekend, and was a resounding success. Plans are already underway for the 2015 edition of the festival, and a special fundraiser is being held with a grand-prize valued at $1,000!
Lisa Marks, one of the founders of the Big River Steampunk Festival, says that organizers are planning big things in 2015, "The Festival will expand to cover Friday night and all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4-7. Definitely a larger Midway with many more vendors and more entertainment. The croquet tournament will be expanded and will probably be located in Nipper Park. We're going to add a parade on Saturday morning to begin our Opening Ceremonies and there will be additional contests such as a Weird Science Fair for inventors and gadget-makers. Probably the biggest change will be the number of special events and entertainers, which of course is still-to-be-determined."
The Hannibal History Museum, the sponsors of the festival, will be giving away a $1,000 Steampunk Prize Package, which includes two All-Access Passes to the 2015 Big River Steampunk Festival, a two-night stay at the Dubach Inn Bed and Breakfast, a gourmet dinner for two at LaBinnah Bistro, $100 in Big River Steampunk Festival Fun Bucks, and a variety of Steampunk merchandise, including books, DVDs and souvenirs.
Tickets for the prize pack are available by making a donation to the Hannibal History Museum: $10 for one, $25 for three, or $50 for ten. The drawing will be held on December 22. Donations can be made online, or by calling the museum at 573-248-1819.
