A fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Moberly, while a star is born in Palmyra Friday night.

In area high school football, the Hannibal Pirates lose at Moberly 18-13 Friday night.

Hannibal scored on a one yard run by Bill Smashey in the second quarter, closing the Moberly lead to 12-7. The home team scored once more in the third quarter. The Pirates answered with a 66 yard TD pass from Gabe Worthington to Wyatt Waelder.

Hannibal had the ball with less than two minutes to go, but Moberly's defense held to preserve the victory.

Hannibal falls to 4-3 and 3-2 in the NCMC.

Meanwhile, Palmyra got a breakout performance from junior running back Jarom Alexander to lead the Panthers to a 35-0 win over Centralia.

Alexander had 20 carries for 223 yards and two touchdowns in the win on runs of 37 and 33 yards. Senior Peyton Plunkett scored three times on 29, 5 and 41 yard runs.

The Palmyra defense did the rest, holding Centralia to 149 total yards.

Palmyra improves to 6-1, while Centralia falls to 5-2.
