When it comes to New Madrid Fault earthquakes, I think I've now seen it all. There was just a tremor that shook a neighborhood in O'Fallon, Illinois Saturday morning.

I had to do a double-take when I saw this earthquake appear on the USGS earthquake map this morning. It was a 2.4 magnitude quake in a subdivision in O'Fallon, Illinois and it's been confirmed by a USGS seismologist. It was centered here.

Already there have been reports from O'Fallon residents that felt the quake Saturday morning.

Let's be clear that a 2.4 quake is nothing to worry about. New Madrid Seismic Zone quakes happen all the time. But, I cannot ever remember seeing one happen in O'Fallon.

It appears there might be a mini-swarm of quakes happening along the New Madrid as there were also 2 others in southern Missouri Saturday. If this becomes an event, I'll obviously update this story. As it stands right now, it's just another odd Illinois earthquake moment that makes you shake your head.
