Museum Visitors Can Go Behind the Glass May 15

Hannibal, Mo. - In celebration of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum's 100th anniversary, visitors will be able to step behind the glass and into the rooms where America's most beloved author grew up.

From 5 to 7 p.m. on May 15, the museum staff will give a tour that allows visitors to explore the rooms of the Boyhood Home, which have been protected behind glass since restoration was completed in 1991.

"We think Sam Clemens would enjoy having people tour the home," said museum executive director Cindy Lovell.  "To preserve the home, we limit foot traffic.  But this is a special occasion."

The VIP tour will cap off a day of celebration at the museum, which begins with the 100th anniversary rededication ceremony at noon on the museum mall.

The new "100 Years of Memories" exhibit will debut the same day in the museum gallery. The exhibit is a photographic retrospective of the museum properties and features submitted photos as well as items from the museum's archives.

Alongside it, a new art exhibit will open, which features artwork of the Boyhood Home and the iconic whitewash fence.
