The Great River Tiger Chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association held its annual tailgate and send-off for area students headed for the University of Missouri this fall Friday.

Along with a pork loin meal and an appearance by MU Athletic Director Jim Sterk, nearly $10,000 in scholarship money was handed out to a dozen students in attendance.

Getting $1,000 merit-based scholarships were: Amy Jones, Palmyra; Andrew Goerlich, Quincy; Abigail Laws, Hannibal; Josh Underhill, Monroe City; Rachel Conrad, Palmyra; Megan Duesterhaus, Quincy and Brant Francis, Paris.

Then, the names of five additional students were drawn out of a hat, and they received $500 scholarships. They were: Jonathan Schaefer, Palmyra; Tanner Nix, Palmyra; Kason Rademan, Hannibal; Jene Shade, Palmyra and Cooper Sutter, Taylor.

The fifth annual get-together was held at Jackson Park Golf Course in Palmyra.
