ST. LOUIS (AP) -The Cardinals were 1-0 winners over the Diamondbacks as Michael Wacha threw three-hit ball over six innings. Jedd Gyorko singled home the game's lone run in the sixth inning. Arizona starter Robbie Ray left the game in the second after getting hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of rookie Luke Voit.
Wacha  has won five of his last six starts and improved to 7-1 in 12 starts at Busch Stadium.

Milwaukee's 2-1 win over the Cubs puts the Brewers just a half-game behind Chicago in the NL Central. Brent Suter blanked the Cubbies on four hits and a walk over seven innings. Manny Pina and Orlando Arcia supplied RBI grounders in the Brewers' third win in 12 games.

BOSTON (AP) - Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas homered off emergency starter Rick Porcello, who took over when David Price went back on the disabled list because of inflammation in his left elbow, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Red Sox 4-2 Friday night for their season-high ninth straight win. Kelvin Herrera pitched a one-hit ninth for his 22nd save in 25 chances.

Kansas City remains two games behind Cleveland in the AL Central following the Indians' eighth consecutive win, a 9-3 rout of the White Sox in Chicago. Jose Ramirez went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs in support of Danny Salazar, who held the Pale Hose to two runs and just three hits over six-plus innings. Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley also went deep for the Indians, who got two hits and two ribbies from Yan Gomes.
