(Quincy)— A Hannibal man avoids prison time after a sentencing hearing in Adams County Circuit Court on Friday.

Twenty year-old Adam Morrall of Hannibal received 36 months probation for his part in the robbery of the Chelsea Adult store in Quincy.  Morrall and James Meredith of Ewing entered the store March 4th , displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money from the employee.  They made off with $1100 in cash. The investigation later determined the two men used a BB gun in the holdup.

Morrall could have received up to 10 years in prison.  Adams County Circuit Judge Scott Walden said he handed down the lighter sentence due to Morrall’s age and absence of criminal history.

Morrall also received a sentence of 360 days in jail, but was given credit for time already served and had the remainder stayed. He will also have to pay restitution.

James Meredith is in jail in Maryville, Missouri on another armed robbery charge.  He is scheduled for trial in December.
