COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - James Franklin threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns before coming out early in the third quarter, helping Missouri whip Murray State 58-14 Saturday night.

Henry Josey had 113 yards on 13 carries with a 68-yard score in his first game back from a left knee injury that required two surgeries and sidelined him all last season. It was 98 degrees at kickoff.

Former Hannibal Pirate Mat Sims helped Northern Illinois defeat Iowa yesterday.  Sims kicked a 36 yard field goal with only four seconds remaining to give the Northern Illinois the victory by a score of 30 to 27.

Culver Stockton opened their season on the road, losing to LIndenwood-Belleville, 29  to   23.

Burnett scattered four hits over seven innings, Russell Martin hit a three-run homer and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 Saturday night to regain sole possession of the NL Central lead. Martin keyed a five-run second with his drive off Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn in Pittsburgh.

TORONTO (AP) - Brett Lawrie drove in the tiebreaking run with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Saturday. Toronto batted around while scoring three unearned runs in the eighth against four Kansas City relievers.
