I know most of us have been distracted by the digging out process from the foot of snow that landed in our back yards (and highways and parking lots, etc.) the past few days.

So, in the interest of bringing you back to reality, I wanted to make sure you realize that Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

If you're looking for a special place to get away with your sweetie for Valentine's Day, or any time, I did a little research on the Most Romantic Getaway Places in Missouri.

There were quite a number of places listed in the websites we visited, but there were five that showed up on just about everyone's list, including one that is very close by.

Inn at Hermannhof

If I had a bucket list, one item that would be on it would be a visit to the Missouri wine country, specifically the Hermann area. This historic inn was built in the mid-1800s, but has all the 21st century amenities you would expect in a romantic getaway.

Big Cedar Lodge

From the folks that brought you Bass Pro Shops and the Top of the Rock golf course comes Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, about ten miles south of Branson. They have a number of options for visitors. If you and your significant other want to be on your own, they recommend their log cabins, with modern features and a grand rustic style.

The Raphael Hotel

This is another hotel that has been around a long time, but is now, as someone once sang, "up to date in Kansas City." Travel & Leisure" listed The Raphael as one of the 500 Best Hotels in the World. It's perfect for a romantic getaway, and it's right in the middle of the KC bustle.

Fleur-de-Lys Mansion

Another product of the 19th century, this St. Louis inn has just four rooms, each with its own theme and its own character.

Garth Mansion

This is, of course, our personal favorite. Garth Mansion was built in 1871, and when it was a private residence, one of the guests of the Garth family was one Sam Clemens, better known to the world as Mark Twain. AAA Traveler's Magazine called this Hannibal landmark the Number One Bed and Breakfast in the Midwest. And, it recently came under new management.

Yes, I understand that, if you're looking to stay at one of these places this Valentine's Day, you're probably out of luck. But, romantic weekends don't just happen in February, right?
