The Army Corp of Engineers will close a stretch of the Mississippi River south of St. Louis beginning early Tuesday morning so contractors can begin blasting rock formations impeding barge traffic. There will be an eight-hour window when it's safe for barges to pass. The corps is now releasing water from Carlyle Like into the Mississippi to raise the river level a few inches.
