A man has been arrested after police say he assaulted another man with an aluminum pipe in Columbia.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports a 32-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday. Columbia Police Department Officer Latisha Stroer said the suspect was arguing with a woman Monday night when a 48-year-old man intervened. Stroer said the suspect threw rocks at the man before grabbing a 3-foot-long aluminum pipe and hitting the man on one of his forearms and on both knees.

According to authorities, the victim drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect faces charges of armed criminal action and second-degree assault. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $9,000 bond.
