A Kansas man pleads guilty to filing a false police report in Pike County, Illinois Circuit Court Monday.

The Illinois State Police reports that 73 year old Gary Schmeling of Overland Park, Kansas was stopped on Interstate 72 in Pike County for not wearing a seat belt in July of 2017. Schmeling paid the fine in September, but then in December mailed a sworn affidavit to the State Police accusing the trooper involved in the stop of misconduct.

A video of the traffic stop and audio of the conversation between Schmeling and the trooper revealed that the trooper did not act improperly.

In court Monday, Schmeling agreed to a plea deal and pleaded guilty to attempted disorderly conduct.

Schmeling was fined $500 and placed on 24 month conditional discharge.
