A Kahoka family is homeless following an early Thursday morning house fire.

The Kahoka/Clark County Fire Department responded to a residential fire in Kahoka at 6:43 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the house, with flames visible in the front door and front windows.

Officials say the home suffered heavy fire damage in the front entryway and living room, with smoke damage in the rest of the house.

The five members of the household got out safely and were taken to Scotland County Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
