TikTok’s Viral ‘Scumbag Dad’ is Actually an Iowa Orthodontist

While scrolling through TikTok, you may have seen a video or two from the account "thescumbagdad." As it turns out, the guy behind the popular account is actually a native Iowan!

Brad Podray is an orthodontist from Ankeny, Iowa, but he does MUCH more than work on people's teeth. According to an article from the Des Moines Register, Brad is best known as "Scumbag Dad," an online character that parodies other internet creators. He told the Register that "Scumbag Dad represents a way to sneak in social commentary under the guise of weird jokes.” Brad's official website says that it all started as a parody of the account YourKoreanDad, but it ended up taking on a life of its own.

If you're wondering just how popular Scumbag Dad is, the answer is VERY. The account has 5.8 million followers on TikTok, 560,000 followers on Instagram, and 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube. There are HUNDREDS of videos available to watch!

It appears that Brad is a pretty busy guy. In addition to video creation, he is also a new dad, a husband, and a talented musician. His website reports that he's been releasing albums since he was just 15-years-old! Oh, and Brad still sees orthodontic patients once a month. He eventually hopes to get a show on cable or a streaming service.
