Investigation Continues Into Palmyra Shooting Incident
An investigation is underway into a shooting incident in Palmyra early Sunday morning.
According to Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue, officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Suter Street about 1:23 a.m. Sunday on a report of a woman being shot.
Officers found a 40 year old woman with a gunshot wound in the back. A man also in the residence told officers he was moving his gun and dropped it on the floor, causing it to discharge, striking the woman.
The woman was taken by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia, where she was reported in stable condition.
The man was taken to the Marion County Jail on a 24-hour hold for unlawful use of a weapon. He was released Monday by the Marion County Prosecutor.
Chief Bogue says no charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
