Illinois Veterans Home Resident Rescued from Lake

A resident of the Illinois Veterans Home had to be rescued from the home’s lake Friday afternoon.

Media reports indicate the unidentified resident apparently lost control of his motorized scooter and went head first into the lake about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A woman, identified as Abby Hively, had taken her children fishing at the lake. She jumped in after the man, and with the help of a security guard, got the resident out of the lake.

The man was taken to Blessing Hospital for treatment. Witnesses at the scene said the man did not appear to be injured.

Water rescue teams had initially been called to the scene, but were waved off once the man had been saved.
