Illinois Sweeps All Star Basketball Classic [Audio]

The' best of the best' area high school basketball players competed in the McDonalds/ Hearld-Whig All Star Classic on Saturday.

It was Missouri vs. Illinois--  The Illinois Girls ran away with their game, defeating Missouri Girls 103 to 51.  The boys from Illinois faced a tougher challenge.  Missouri Boys led through most of the game.  Illinois pulled off a comeback late in the game to edge past Missouri with a final score of 109 to 104.

In Prospect League Baseball, the Hannibal Cavemen played through the drizzle and defeated Springfield 7 to 4.   KHMO's Harold Smith had the call from Clemens Field.  Harold's game wrap:

The Cavemen travel to Quincy Sunday to take on the Gems.  You can hear the action right here.  Game gets underway at 6:30, weather permitting.

In Major League Baseball, the Cardinals put together a combination of great pitching by Shelby Miller, tight defense, and key offensive hits against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday.  The result was a shutout victory--Cards 5  Blue Jays 0.  The  Cards play the rubber game of the series this afternoon.
