Illinois Man Accused of Attempted Murder After Burn Victim Found
If the accusations are proven true, this is a horrific crime. Illinois State Police have captured an Illinois man and charged him with attempted murder after a severely-burned victim was found with life-threatening injuries.
The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police just announced the arrest of 36-year-old Matthew R. Broadhacker of Maroa, Illinois. They say that on September 28, 2024, they responded to a 911 call in the 400 block of N. Maple Street in Maroa, Illinois. They discovered a female victim who had suffered life-threatening burn injuries who was then taken to an area hospital.
Matthew R. Broadhacker of Maroa reportedly remained on the scene while detectives conducted their investigation. He was then arrested and charged on October 1, 2024 with Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class X Felony), and Aggravated Battery (Class X Felony).
Maroa, Illinois is a small community located just north of Decatur, Illinois.
There is no update on the female victim's condition at the time of this writing. The investigation was completed by the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 5.
The Illinois State Police emphasize that charges are not a proof of guilt and the accused is considered innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
