The load limit for vehicles using the bridge that takes Highway 106 across the Illinois River in Pike County has been changed.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that, as the result of a recent load rating evaluation, the state Bureau of Bridges and Structures has changed the load limits on the Illinois River bridge at Florence.

Effective immediately, the new limits are 18 tons for single-unit vehicles and 20 tons for combination vehicles. Any vehicles over these limits will need to use Interstate 72 to cross the river.

IDOT is making repair plans to remove the load limit, but the limit is expected to remain in effect until next spring.
