The 2016 Labor Day weekend proved to be deadlier than last year on Missouri’s highways.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 15 people died in traffic crashes over the just-concluded holiday weekend. That compares with ten deaths in 2015.

Statewide, troopers investigated 299 traffic crashes, resulting in 108 injuries and 15 deaths.

Two of those deaths occurred in northeast Missouri. 74 year old Howard and 73 year old Maureen Young of Laddonia died Saturday in a traffic crash on Highway 61 north of Palmyra.

There were no boating fatalities and one drowning over the holiday weekend, compared with two fatalities and three drownings a year ago.

The Labor Day reporting period ran from 6 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday.
