Hannibal’s Autumn Historic Folklife Festival – What’s the Best Food? [Poll]
I remember hearing a long time ago that the best way to tell the locals from the tourists at Hannibal's Autumn Historic Follklife Festival is that the tourists are there for the crafts, and the locals are there for the food.
It's true that there are always a lot of good things to eat during the Folklife Festival, which will be Oct 18 - 19, this year. Chicken and noodles, fried fish sandwiches, kettle corn, bear bread, hot apple cider and applesauce donuts are items that can be found pretty much every year.
I love the fish sandwiches. In fact, in the past I have been known to drive downtown, find a place to park, walk about 30 miles each way (slight exaggeration) from my car to the fish sandwich booth, order my lunch, and then turn around and go back home with my sandwich. I'm a local.
What about you? What is your favorite food at the Folklife Festival?
2014 will mark the 38th year for the Autumn Historic Folklife Festival, presented by the Hannibal Arts Council. Besides the food, there will be craftsmen, visual artists and performers with booths set up along Main Street.
The Festival's Statement of Purpose, according to the Hannibal Arts Council:
The Autumn Historic Folklife Festival was conceived and is presented to educate and celebrate our cultural heritage by showcasing the historic crafts, food, music, performing arts and culture of the past.
HAC is seeking volunteers to set up the event, and tear down afterwards. They could also use help in their root beer and coffee booths. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the Hannibal Arts Council online, or call 573-221-6545.
