Hannibal Board of Public Works ratepayers could be facing higher bills in the next fiscal year.

A story published in the Hannibal Courier-Post reports board members of the Hannibal BPW are considering new increases in water, sewer, and electric rates.

Board officials say increases are needed to keep operating budgets out of the red. A proposal to raise rates approximately 5 percent has received the most Board support.

Electric rates went up in 2012 and 2013 and water and sewer rates have increased several times since 2009.

A public hearing will be held before any new rate increases are implemented.
