Hannibal Pirates Suffer Season Ending Loss
The Hannibal Pirates traveled across the state to take on Kearney in Class 4 state quarterfinal action.The Pirates fought hard Saturday afternoon, but came up short in the end. The final was Kearney Bulldogs 28, Hannibal Pirates 21. Shamar Griffith scored 3 TD's for the Pirates.
The Pirates trailed 7-0 after the opening drive. Hannibal answered back with a touchdown of their own. Kearney went up 14 -7. The Pirates drove 67 yards upfield to even the score at 14 all.
The second half saw Kearney move ahead by 2 scores, 28 to 14. A 56-yard run by Shamar Griffith put the Pirates within striking distance at 28 to 21. The Pirate defense stopped Kearney at the 50 yard line and forced a punt. The Pirates moved the ball downfield from the 24-yard line and scored an apparent touchdown, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. The final score remained 28 to 21 in favor of the Kearney Bulldogs.
In Class 1 Quarterfinal action, Monroe City heads to the semis after defeating Marceline 30 to 21. Lincoln will now pay a visit to Monroe City on Nov. 19 in the Class 1 semifinal.
The Missouri Tiger football team knocked off Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon. The final was Mizzou 26, Vanderbilt 17. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock threw 22 complete passes with 2 touchdowns. J'Mon Moore caught 8 passes and scored twice.
