The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department announced Tuesday they are seeking bids for the building of the memorial at the Cardiff Hill overlook.
More than $56,000 has been raised through the sale of bricks and donations to build the memorial, which parks and rec says is enough to move forward.
Along with a memorial brick pathway, the memorial will include a bell from the U.S.S. Hannibal, a Navy ship that sailed in the Spanish American War and both World Wars.
