Hannibal Parks and Recreation raised over $9,000 for Special Olympics Saturday, February 22.

In a news release from Hannibal Parks & Rec, they announced that last year's fundraising total  was exceeded by over $2,000.

The top individual fundraisers were Meghan Karr and Kelsey Orwerth, representing the Hannibal Early Childhood Center. The costume contest was won by Evan Butler.

Saturday's fourth annual polar plunge fundraiser benefits the more than 500 Special Olympics in northeast Missouri.

According to Parks and Rec, Hannibal Polar Plunge is the only one in Missouri to take place in the Mississippi River.
