A Hannibal man who attacked a man with a hatchet in 2014 has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to prison.

26 year old Adam Hayes pleaded guilty Monday to first degree assault before Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd in Marion County Circuit Court.

As part of a plea agreement, Hayes was sentenced to ten years in prison, the minimum allowed for the charge.

Hayes is alleged to have attacked a man with a hatchet at Schwartz Manor in the 100 block of North 10th in December of 2014.

The man suffered blunt force trauma to the head, but recovered after several surgeries.
