The Hannibal City Council Monday officially gave the go ahead to a runoff election on April 18th in the Fifth Ward Aldermanic race.

On April 4th, none of the candidates in the three-way race in the Fifth Ward got 50 percent of the vote. That means that the top two vote-getters, Colin Welch and incumbent Gordon Ipson, will face off again next week.

The Hannibal city charter mandates that such a runoff take place within two weeks of the election, and that the city council meet to set the date.
