The Hannibal City Council Tuesday began the process for putting a sales tax increase on a special election ballot August 3rd.
The proposed half-cent sales tax would go to roads, building demolitions and storm water management.
Officials say issues like storm drain repair could cost millions to fix, which is hard to do when you have to depend on grant money.
The bill officially authorizing the special election will be voted on by the council at its next meeting.
